Women are innately hardwired to live between the worlds. I am not saying that men are incapable of this, because we know this of course is simply not true. But women naturally and biologically access this liminal space, a space that is a unique function of giving birth, that is to say the human portal between worlds.
Many cultures have understood this through time, history, and pre-history. Many of our most ancient cultures exalted the great goddess for this special and unique ability, which was not limited to birthing. The same qualities and attributes needed to bear a child into the world, the same ability to touch the unknown and meet the great mystery, is that which is needed to enter into this threshold space at will. It is the ability to open so wide that one’s vision is expanded, the prism is dilated, and a kind of a looking glass appears and touches the journeyer. This sacred biology lends itself to the one who naturally touches the veil.
This natural understanding gave rise to the goddess civilizations, the cultures that were formed around this supernatural ability to bring life into this world through the vessel of her body. Because of this gift, the woman was also protected, for to travel between the realms can be dangerous. There is enormous vulnerability and power inherent in such a journey. One must be shielded, one must sanctify the space, and initially, true guidance is needed. The wisdom of those who have walked these invisible lands before us is necessary, for there is much that we do not understand when we are inexperienced.
What happens to a culture where this gift is not honored?
What happens to a woman who unknowingly trains this ability out of herself?
What happens to a civilization that refuses to acknowledge her sacred place?
What happens in a world where the goddess is defiled, over and over and over again?
What happens to her innate ability to touch the great mystery when she does not know that this is what she is actually touching, beautiful and terrifying and humbling as it is, because in this world, the invisible realms are simply a myth.
These gifts remain, regardless, and sometimes they move underground and lie dormant. Other times, in such a culture, those with these abilities are persecuted, captured, subverted and manipulated to serve other ends.
When this happens, a kind of madness may set in.
This is a madness born out of the denial of her natural and sacred place.
This is a madness that refuses to acknowledge the enormous undertaking and sacred responsibility not only of giving birth, but of being a conduit, a portal, and a gateway for the spirit realm.
Much of her power may then be siphoned off towards other ends.
For when her spiritual force is not protected, it becomes easy prey for those who would use this power for their own ends.
In the spiral of madness which would move to deny her body as a most sacred vessel, her biology as a supernatural tool, her being as a walker between the worlds, we can move back to the center by simply and quickly remembering this sacred truth, encircling her sacred flame, and acknowledging the life giving waters that she swims through, every single day.
In this way, we help restore her sacred seat, which is the seat of the cosmos itself.
what happens, you ask? people like us are hiding in holes waiting for the shots to stop firing.
I think some of the symptoms of not allowing the gifts of the feminine to lead culture, is the modern feminist movement, child day care and compulsory school attendance.
