Meetings with the Shadow
What does healing feel like ?
Does it feel like a cry that keeps moving, bottomless in its depth, mysterious in its origins?
Does it feel like an aching body and a sideward walk?
Does it feel like a heart that has been broken and is swimming in a sea of sorrow?
Does it feel like ears ringing and light that is blinding, sound that is noise and where silence is the only song that is soothing ?
Does it feel like anger rising and riding on a wave of love?
Does it feel like a fever burning high in the middle of the night, scorching anything that prevents the self from knowing the self?
Does it feel like a sword breaking, secrets revealed in the most sacred cave, a quiet hymn that caresses the body, despite the violence you may have endured?
Is it an angel coming to greet you in the middle of the night, holding the grief and a the darkness when it is too heavy to bear?
Does it feel like light flooding into the deepest cracks, revealing the wholeness underneath the fragmentation that has been awaiting our remembrance and rebirth?
When a soul goes into the depths, it is this that the soul meets.
It is that anguish and soul hunger that directs us, slowly, painfully, exquisitely, back into the heart of the self.
It is this great meeting with the shadow that brings us to our knees, that guides us into the embrace of the divine.
There is no other way.
