When we think of sacrifice, it is easy to think about what gets lost. It is easy to feel the absence of what was, and the suffering that comes as a result of such a sense of loss.
But in the spiritual realms, nothing is truly gained without the exchange of energy that we call sacrifice. As seekers and mystics we must be willing to give over of ourselves in order to be initiated into ever deeper degrees of gnosis and wisdom understanding. No true wisdom is bestowed upon us without the initiatory experience of sacrifice and the inevitable suffering that occurs through such a threshold experience. It is the degree of our willingness to love through that suffering, while keeping the internal compass set towards our highest good, which then catapults us into our deeper felt wisdom. This is the way of the great mystery.
This is a spiritual law which is also a law of energetic exchange or replacement. When we make sacrifice, we are in essence choosing one of a thousands streamways that are layered out before us. Each of these tributaries holds within it a separate trajectory, all leading back into the very same river, which leads back into the same one ocean from which we all emanate. In choosing one river path, we momentarily dissolve the others, and in this dissolving, a kind of death occurs. It is within this death that can be felt the sacrifice, which is a choice.
The greater the death, the greater the sacrifice, the greater the Initiation, and the greater the river.
We see this energetic principle made real through the mythologies that live within our beings. One of the most well known of these stories of sacrifice is the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who willingly endured the immense suffering of death through crucifixion, only to be reborn again and return through his highest form.
We can feel this story to be a deeper illustration of the energetic principle of initiation, and awakening. True awakening stems only from the threshold experience of sacrifice - death - rebirth. In every initiation, we must be willing to allow the old notions of self and identify to fall away, again and again, so that we might come to choose to know ourselves through the light of the divine.
