The Ocean and the Shore
Life and the manifest world, as Joseph Campbell has so beautifully articulated, is an incredible dance that swings between the great pairs of opposites. The high and the low, the dark and the light, the joy and the sorrow, the day and the night, the seen and the unseen, the spirit and the flesh, the inner and the outer, the summer and the winter, the yin and the yang, the in-breath and the out-breath, the hot and the cold, the shiva and the shakti, the masculine and the feminine, the heart and the mind, the witness and the experience, the container and the contained, the ocean and the shore, the fire and the water, the Agni and the Soma, the boundary and the experience.
Each of these great opposites could not exist without the other. This is the paradox and the beauty of this world, that these opposites are ultimately interconnected - two halves of the very same whole. They are one, and yet they are also two, both.
This sacred polarity is the very fabric of our world. It is an energetic and spiritual realty that holds within it the paradoxical keys to spiritual awakening within the body temple. To understand, embody, and unify this sacred polarity is to begin to comprehend the holy technology within the physical form, the ascent and the descent, and the awakening of the coil at the root of the spine which moves beyond religion and culture and definition into the primal reality of the understanding of the latent energy which exists within all human existence.
Each of these forces are integral to our earthly journey. Living a healthful and harmonious life is about balancing these sacred oppositional forces, both within, and without.
It is the understanding that without the shore line, the ocean would consume everything.
It is the understanding that without the darkness, we would not be able to discern the light.
It is the understanding that without the perimeter, there is no center.
It is the understanding that without the sperm, the egg is meaningless.
It is the understanding that without a depth of feeling, there can be no clarity.
It is the understanding that without the spirit, the flesh is simply an empty shell.
This is the great paradox that we live within.
The two are one, and also two, all at once.
What we are coming to experience in our current earthly era is the complete imbalance, and even erasure, of this sacred dance of polarity.
The deeper question that we must come to ask ourselves, is why?
Each of us must begin to answer this sacred inquiry for ourselves.
The answer then determines the trajectory that we set ourselves upon.
This trajectory is of the utmost importance to ourselves, to our children, and to our grandchildren.
Are we on the path of sacred polarity, or the path of erasure?
Are we on the path of integration, or the path of fragmentation?
Are we on the path of nature, or that of the machine?
Are we on the path of love, or do we thrive on the absence of love, feeding like a parasite off of humanities lesser nature, condemning ourselves to a life of imprisonment and to our lower principalities, a shadow, chimera, an imprint of what we truly could be?
