Trauma as Sacred Initiation
Trauma is an integral part of our living experience.
No human being escapes some aspect of it’s violent passage, though we often wish that we could be immune from it’s rites.
In it’s most core experience, trauma is a threshold passage, one which brings us to our knees - and for some, to deaths very doorstep. This was my experience.
Trauma, though often laced with shame and guilt, is nothing to be ashamed of. In fact -the greatest adepts, masters, visionaries and healers of all time have been asked to move through these gates. There is no escape in the ascension path. The reckoning must be this complete for the true initiate to be able to pass through the threshold. The initiate must comprehend on a cellular level what it is to be reborn in the light of the sun, of pure awareness, and come to the embodied experience that our very cellular regenerative currency is love.
I will give one miraculous example, though there are countless.
Black Elk, the great medicine man from the Oglala Lakota people, was brought to deaths doorstep as a boy.
It was in this moment in time that he received what was to be known as his most powerful and greatest vision - his vision of The Great Hoop.
“And I say the sacred hoop of my people was one of the many hoops that made one circle, wide as daylight and as starlight, and in the center grew one mighty flowering tree to shelter all the children of one mother and one father. “
Black Elk Speaks
Through this near death experience he was graced to experience the full light of the divine.

The very experience of trauma asks us to cacoon inward and undergo a metamorphosis through alchemical shifts of human consciousness. This transmutation is a personal and physical affair. We must, through our own courage and inner heart grow the fortitude to allow ourselves to move through this psychic death - rebirth experience, and allow ourselves to be directed by our highest innermost nature, so that we reinitiate the powerful upward spiral of our evolutionary journey.
The trauma experience is the most profound rite of passage that a soul might move through.
Every physical birth and death incorporates some element of trauma.
It can be no other way.
It is this simple.
This is why the experience must be reframed in our hearts and minds so that it’s spiritual nature may be more clearly perceived. To be touched by such experience is to be touched by the divine.
If we fail to meet the challenge that our personal and ancestral trauma presents, if we are incapable of dancing with and integrating our personal and collective shadow, if we move to bury our heads, hearts and consciousness in the dry and arid desert, then we will remain in suspended stages of growth, or worse - regress or devolve down the spiral, unable to alchemize what has been placed before us.
The stakes now are greater than they have ever been. Without proper integration, the soul remains detached, the spirit becomes unhinged from the body, and we are easy prey for the parasitic forces that roam our world. For it is through our own personal and ancestral undigested trauma that these entities gain access to our body, heart and mind. It is through this entry point that we might find ourselves doing the unspeakable, and not even having the consciousness to perceive it.
This is why this is the Great Work. This is the work now that must be done in order that we might liberate not only our own hearts, but the heart of humanity itself.
This is how we release ourselves from slavery.
For it is beyond these gates of fragementation, disassociation and degeneration that the sphere of wholeness, harmony, beauty and truth, exist.
This is the Land of Spirit herself, waiting for you to be reborn in her exquisite image.
